Help & answers
A few things readers often ask. If you don't find what you need, a real person is one message away.
Getting started
The basics of how Susurr works.
Do I need an account to use Susurr?
No. Susurr has no accounts and no sign-up. You open the app and start reading — everything is stored privately on your device from the first moment.
Where is my data stored?
Entirely on your iPhone. Your library, notes, and voice reflections never leave the device unless you choose to export a backup yourself.
Does Susurr work offline?
Yes. Susurr is built offline-first, so reading, note-taking, and recording all work without a connection. Some recommendation features may use the internet — see below.
Backup & restore
Keeping and moving your reading life.
How do I back up my reading data?
Open Settings inside Susurr and choose Export Backup. The app creates a single file containing your library, notes, and reflections. Save it somewhere you trust — Files, a folder, or your own storage.
How do I restore a backup or move to a new phone?
On the new device, install Susurr, open Settings, and choose Import Backup. Select the file you saved earlier and your reading life is restored exactly as it was.
What happens if I delete the app?
Because nothing is stored in the cloud, deleting the app removes its data from your device. Export a backup first if you'd like to keep your library and notes.
Is my backup file readable or encrypted?
Your backup is a single file you control. Store it somewhere private, and treat it the way you would any personal document — because that's exactly what it is.
AI recommendations
How suggestions work, and what they don't do.
How does Susurr recommend books?
Recommendations draw on the books already on your shelves and your reading history to suggest titles you might enjoy next. They're meant to be a short, considered list — not an endless feed.
Does using recommendations share my data?
Susurr is designed to respect your privacy. Recommendation features are built to share as little as possible, and your notes and voice reflections are never used for advertising or sold to anyone.
Can I turn recommendations off?
Yes. Recommendations are optional. If you'd rather keep Susurr as a pure reading journal, you can simply not use them.
Pricing & subscription
What's free and how billing works.
Is Susurr free?
Susurr is free to download and the core reading journal is yours to use. Some advanced features may be offered through an optional subscription.
How do I manage or cancel a subscription?
All subscriptions are handled by the App Store. To view, change, or cancel, open the iOS Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and select Susurr.
Do I lose my data if I cancel?
No. Your library, notes, and reflections remain on your device. Canceling only ends access to optional paid features.
Troubleshooting
When something isn't behaving.
My voice reflection won't record.
Susurr needs microphone permission to record. Open the iOS Settings app, find Susurr, and make sure Microphone access is enabled. Then reopen the app and try again.
The app is running slowly or won't open.
Try closing Susurr fully and reopening it, then restart your device if needed. Make sure you're on the latest version from the App Store. If the issue continues, email us with your device model and iOS version.
An import failed or my backup won't load.
Confirm you're selecting the exact backup file exported from Susurr and that it hasn't been renamed or altered. If it still won't load, write to us and we'll help you recover it.
